In what known as the world’s first Coronavirus vaccine, Russia shows up as the sudden hope for the jeopardizing world. Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin just approved their in-house made COVID-19 vaccine, which is also been tested on one of his daughters that yielded successful results. It’s now preparing for third phase testing and also mass production.
Russia Makes the World’s First COVID-19 Vaccine!
The would have been struggling for a while due to the ongoing pandemic. The spread of Coronavirus across countries have infected over 20 million people and killed at least 750,000 people to date. While all the nations are trying to contain the spread, some developed countries are deeply involved in the works of making a vaccine for it.
And now, Russia came out with its working vaccine to be the world’s first maker! On Tuesday morning, the Russian president, Vladimir Putin announced its first-ever in-house made vaccine for Coronavirus. It’s named as Sputnik V, after the Soviet satellite, the head of the country’s sovereign wealth fund.
Putin also said that one of his daughters had tried this vaccine, and seen better results. Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, which finances the vaccine project, said that over one billion doses are ordered by at least 20 countries already. While the phase 3 trials start on Wednesday, he said the mass production of this vaccine would start this September simultaneously.
As of now, WHO is discussing with Russian health authorities for the process of pre-qualification of its just-announced vaccine. This includes the vaccine going through rigorous checks before being tagged as safe to try. On the other hand, Putin has already vested the government to perform vaccination of upto 60% of Russians soon.
