The International Cricket Council has finally announced the big decision of postponing the Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 to October of 2021. Further, then supposed Men’s T20 World Cup will be moved to 2021. And actual Men’s ODI World Cup is scheduled on October 2023. Moving of these tournaments could open gates for IPL 2020, be held later this year.

ICC Officially Postpones Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 

 IBC, the commercial wing of ICC has today announced that the committee has decided to postpone the prolonged tournaments due to COVID-19. After months-long of regular meetings accessing the situation, ICC has finally postponed this year’s Men’s T20 World Cup to October-November of 2021. This tournament was scheduled in Australia on March this year but was halted citing the ongoing pandemic.

The result of today’s meetings are as follows;

  • ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will be held October – November 2021 with the final on 14 November 2021.
  • ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will be held October – November 2022 with the final on 13 November 2022.
  • ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 will be held in India October – November 2023 with the final on 26 November 2023.

IBC Board on today’s decision said, ” IBC has agreed to continue to monitor the rapidly changing situation and assess all the information available to make a considered decision on future hosts to ensure the sport can stage safe and successful global events in 2021 and 2022.”

Alongside, IBC is also looking at taking a similar decision over the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021, which is scheduled in New Zealand in February next year. ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said: “We have undertaken a comprehensive and complex contingency planning exercise and through this process, our number one priority has been to protect the health and safety of everyone involved in the sport.

Gates Open For IPL 2020

Though this saddens the cricket community across the world, it excites Indian cricket fans! Postponing the official ICC tournaments means the blockage for India’s native tournament, IPL is cleared. BCCI could assess the situation to be playable, and also considering the players available to conduct the IPL 2020 in space of cancelled T20 World Cup this year.
