Asus has finally launched its flagship gaming handset – Asus ROG Phone 3. This smartphone is the latest of its Republic of Gamers (ROG) series and got all the high-end features to compete with today’s flagship gaming smartphones. While this handset is specially directed at mobile gamers, it’s still good for daily tasks.
The ROG Phone 3 follows the basic display design, latest chipset, adequate battery and most importantly, equips relevant features to handle heavy gaming. It’s fairly refreshed from its predecessor, ROG Phone 2, and now stands against the Lenovo’s Legion Duel, another high-end gaming phone launch the same day.
With that being said, here’s all you need to learn about this new gamer’s gear;
Asus ROG Phone 3 Specifications
The ROG Phone 3 has a 6.59″ AMOLED display with 1080×2340p resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. With 19.5:9 aspect ratio, it’s got no punch-holes or notches but still maintains the old-fashioned rectangular design. Well, it supports HDR 10+, has 650 nits of peak brightness and is protected by Gorilla Glass 6.
Under the hood, it’s got the Snapdragon’s latest 865+ SoC, which is an octa-core processor having clock speeds up to 2.42GHz. It’s made on 7nm+ process, comes with Adreno 650 GPU, and supports dual-band 5G networks. Coming to the software, it runs on ROG’s native UI over Android 10 as the base.
This handset has up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM with up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 onboard storage. While this was limited to India, some countries can get up to 16GB of RAM with up to 512GB of ROM. In the imaging, ROG Phone 3 has a triple rear setup as, a 64MP (f/1.8) Sony IMX686 lens as the primary sensor, followed by a 13MP (f/2.0) ultra-wide angular lens with 125° coverage, and a 5MP (f/2.0) sensor as macros lens.
Upfront, it has a 24MP (f/2.0) lens that can record 1080p videos with ease. And the rear setup is capable of recording 4K videos. Taking about its gaming features, ROG has set several technologies to keep the handset cool and smooth for playing. This includes the Flicker Reduction-certified technology and TUV Low Blue Light solution for less eye strain from the display.
From within, it has GameCool 3 heat dissipation system and a copper 3D vapour chamber along with a larger graphite film. Further, there are AirTrigger 3 ultrasonic buttons at joystick-type gaming and also an AeroActive Cooler 3 accessory that comes with a kickstand and built-in fan to reduce the handset’s temperature by 4° C.
Though all these made the ROG Phone 3 a little bulkier, that goes acceptable for gamers since they mind much about the in-game experience, rather than physical handling. Finally, it’s having all the required connectivities like 5G, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6, GPS, VoLTE, USB Type-C, NFS and in-display fingerprint sensor. Though it ditches audio jack, it has DTC:X dual audio front-facing speakers.
The entire handset’s work is powered by a 6000mAh battery with 30W fast charging support. It also 10W reverse charging support.
