Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to benefit from their formidable spin duo of Amit Mishra and young sensation Ravi Bishnoi in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The 22-year-old Bishnoi, who has already shown his prowess in the league with 37 wickets from 37 matches, is gearing up to make an even more significant impact in his fourth season.
Fielding coach Jonty Rhodes acknowledged Bishnoi’s importance in the team, stating that his bowling style played a significant role in LSG’s success last season. With LSG set to face Delhi Capitals in their opening game on Saturday, all eyes will be on Bishnoi as he aims to deliver another exceptional performance.
Bishnoi, who first rose to prominence as the highest wicket-taker in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup, has been a consistent performer for the Indian cricket team in T20Is as well, with 16 wickets in 10 games. As the ODI World Cup approaches, a solid performance in this IPL season could further strengthen his position in the eyes of the national selectors.
Reflecting on his cricketing journey, Bishnoi shared his experiences on LSG’s podcast. The young spinner talked about how he prioritized his passion for cricket over his education, even missing his Class 12 board exams to be a net bowler for Rajasthan Royals in 2018. With his coaches’ support, Bishnoi managed to convince his parents to let him continue pursuing his cricketing dreams.
Bishnoi also opened up about the infamous altercation with Bangladesh cricketers during the U-19 World Cup final in South Africa. He admitted that the incident taught him a valuable lesson, and he has refrained from sledging ever since.
With a promising career ahead, Ravi Bishnoi is determined to make the most of his opportunities in this year’s IPL. As he teams up with experienced spinner Amit Mishra, fans can expect a thrilling display of leg-spin magic from the Lucknow Super Giants.
