Taco Bell Brings Back an Item With a Musical

In a rare move that lives up to the hype, Taco Bell is planning a major comeback celebration for the return of a beloved menu item.

Although not many would have predicted this sort of welcome wagon, the Mexican fast-food chain is planning a TikTok musical about Mexican Pizza, starring Dolly Parton and Doja Cat—who are big fans of the layered beefy discoid.

The musical will premiere exclusively on TikTok on May 26 at 8 p.m. EST and 5 p.m. PST, while the Pizza is officially slated to return to the menu on May 19, according to Taco Bell.

The return of the pizza was announced in April by rapper Doja Cat during her live Coachella performance and confirmed later by the chain.

The humorous musical is about the "harrowing story of those who fought to bring back the Mexican Pizza." It will feature "notable moments from Doja Cat's triumphant journey," a special appearance from Dolly Parton, and music by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear.

Both Doja Cat and Dolly Parton have been outspoken about their disappointment with the removal of Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell's menu, which was pulled in November of 2020.

In January of this year, Parton told Insider during an interview that she often ordered the item and believed the chain should bring it back.

Doja Cat has long championed the Mexican Pizza's return, even getting tapped by the chain to sing a jingle about her love for the Pizza on TikTok. She has since been called the "voice of the Taco Bell people."

The idea for the musical was formed after TikToker Victor Kunda went viral following his interpretation of what a Mexican Pizza musical rehearsal could look like, which was based on Doja Cat's original jingle.

And to sweeten the deal, Taco Bell is also offering Mexican Pizza fans delivery through DoorDash during the first week the iconic menu item is back (May 19 to 26). DashPass members can get $2 off one Mexican Pizza with a minimum purchase of $12 using promo code MEXPIZZA at checkout.
