The Oklahoma City Thunder had growing pains to start the 2017-2018 season. They were off to a 8-12 start and since then, the Thunder have won 14 out of 19 games. Oklahoma City’s record is now 22-17 and they are currently in the fifth spot in the western conference. The Thunder are two games back of the Minnesota Timberwolves for the four spot. They are nine games back of the Golden State Warriors for the number one spot.
Many people at the beginning of the season predicted the Thunder to be in the western conference finals against the Golden State Warriors and some people think they can beat them. Oklahoma City is a championship contender. If the Thunder continued to struggle, they might have looked to shop Paul George at the trade deadline but the odds are now that it probably won’t happen.
George is averaging 21 PPG 5.4 RPG and 3 APG so far this season. Russell Westbrook is averaging 24.8 PPG 9.6 RPG 10.1 APG and 2 SPG so far this season. Westbrook has 13 triple-doubles so far this season. He had a total of 41 last season. Carmelo Anthony is averaging 17.7 PPG and 5.9 RPG so far this season. Steven Adams is averaging 13.4 PPG 8.8 RPG and 1.0 BPG so far this season. Andre Roberson is averaging 1.1 SPG this season and he is a terrific versatile defender.
Jerami Grant is averaging 7.7 PPG amd 3.7 RPG off the bench. The Oklahoma City Thunder don’t have a strong bench and maybe they should acquire someone at the trade deadline to bolster it.
The Thunder are averaging 104.9 PPG as a team this season which is tied for 16th in the NBA with the Charlotte Hornets. The Thunder are giving up 100.8 PPG as a team this season which is the third best in the NBA. Head coach Billy Donovan has done a good job adjusting as the season as gone on. Let’s see if the Thunder can continue winning and get a possible top three seed in the western conference.
