To the actions of China on the border, India starts cyber retaliation with officially banning 59 Chinese apps today. The Ministry of Information Technology has released a note that dictates ban on 59 Chinese apps, which includes famous names like TikTok, UC browser, We Chat, Share It, Clash of Kings etc.
India Bans TikTok and Many Chinese Apps
The Ministry has reasoned for this call as these apps are “engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order.” Further, they claim to have received so many complaints that these apps are stealing and transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to outside servers, which India doesn’t have control on.
Surprisingly, the list doesn’t have PUBG Mobile in it, though it’s a Chinese one. Authorities say the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre along with the Ministry of Home Affairs have received many complaints and recommendations for blocking these apps. And here’s the time. These apps, as India and many other cybersecurity experts called, can pose security risk through the Chinese government in some way. The list includes;
