Whenever someone counts out Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions, they might want to think again. Stafford sparked the Lions in the fourth quarter once again en route to a 35-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Stafford completed 29-of-41 passes for 292 yards passing 4 touchdowns and one interception.
In the first quarter, Stafford threw a pick six to Justin Bethel and he returned it 82 yards to the house. Arizona led 10-0 after the first. Stafford threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Jones Jr who finished with 2 catches for 37 yards receiving and one touchdown. Golden Tate was the leading wide out for the Lions with 10 catches for 107 yards receiving. Matt Prater drilled a 56-yard field goal for the Lions before halftime.
Kerwynn Williams scored on a 3-yard touchdown run for the Cardinals in the third-quarter. David Johnson was very quiet for the Cardinals. He only rushed for 23 yards on 11 carries, but Johnson caught 6 passes for 68 yards receiving. Johnson left the game with an wrist injury. Larry Fitzgerald caught 6 passes for 74 yards receiving for Arizona.
Theo Riddick caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Stafford in the third-quarter. Kenny Golladay caught two touchdown passes for the Lions in the fourth-quarter (10 and 45 yards). Golladay finished with 4 catches for 69 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. Miles Killebrew scored on a 35-yard pick six for the Lions as well. Detroit outscored Arizona 20-6 in the fourth-quarter.
Carson Palmer had a rough day. He completed 27-of-48 passes for 269 yards passing one touchdown and 3 interceptions. The Arizona touchdown in the fourth was scored by J.J. Nelson on a one-yard reception.
The Cardinals will travel to face the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday and the Lions will travel to face the New York Giants next Monday Night.
