The pursuit of a swap deal with Villarreal featuring Giovani Lo Celso, who is apparently being eyed by the Spanish club for a permanent position in advance of the upcoming season, could prove profitable for Tottenham. The team from north London has already brought in a number of fresh faces over the course of this summer, with Djed Spence becoming the most recent player to sign with the club earlier this month after completing the last steps of his transfer from Middlesbrough.
The Argentine player joined Spurs in 2019 on a temporary basis at first, then the transfer became permanent later on. The North Londoners ended up paying Real Betis a total of £42.3 million for Lo Celso, which included a transfer price of £27.3 million and a loan fee of £15 million, but unfortunately, things haven’t worked out for him.
While on loan with Villarreal during the previous season, Lo Celso played a combined 950 minutes of La Liga soccer in 15 games. During that period, he had one goal scored by him and one assist for the team.
According to the source, the Italian club is interested in signing the player on a loan with the option to buy him permanently at the conclusion of the season.
The future of Lo Celso is unknown at this time, and it remains to be seen whether the Florence club and Tottenham will come to an agreement over his transfer during this summer.
