Outfielder/First Baseman Mike Papi was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 2014 MLB Draft and he was taken #38 overall. He went to the University of Virginia and Papi was one of the reasons why they made it to the College World Series final that season. Unfortunately for them, they lost in three games to Vanderbilt.
He is 24 years old and is currently with Triple-A Columbus. Papi started the season with Double-A Akron. In the minors overall this season, Papi’s batting average is .254 with 11 homeruns and 50 RBI’s, and has five stolen bases as well. He is a very good line drive hitter.
Papi will probably make the majors sometime next season. The Indians will probably take a serious look at him in Spring Training. He was ranked #20 on the Cleveland Indians top prospects according to believelandball.com before the 2017 season began. Papi isn’t even ranked on the Cleveland Indians top 30 prospects on MLB.com. That tells you how deep the Indians farm system is.
