New England Patriots Shock Pittsburgh Steelers In Controversial Ending


The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers game lived up to the hype from the start. After Dion Lewis scored on a 8-yard touchdown run (Rob Gronkowski 2-point conversion from Tom Brady) to take the lead, the Steelers got the ball back with a little bit under a minute remaining. JuJu Smith-Schuster busted a 69-yard reception inside Steelers territory. Jesse James originally had a 10-yard touchdown reception called on the field to take the lead, but it would be overturned because as he was going to the ground James never had complete possession going to the ground.

On a third-and-7 play, Ben Roethlisberger threw a fake-spike and it was deflected and intercepted by Duron Harmon. The Patriots won the game 27-24. Rex Burkhead scored on a 1-yard touchdown run for the Patriots in the first. Burkhead rushed for 12 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Dion Lewis also rushed for 67 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. He also had a reception for 13 yards.

Later in the first, Rogers caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Roethlisberger later in the first. With the game tied at 10, Martavis Bryant caught a 4-yard one-handed touchdown pass from Roethlisberger. Bryant finished with four receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown. Roethlisberger completed 22-of-30 passes for 281 yards two touchdowns and a interception. JuJu Smith-Schuster was Pittsburgh’s leading receiver with six receptions for 114 yards. Antonio Brown caught two passes for 24 yards receiving. He left the game in the second-quarter and Brown has been diagnosed with a partially torn calf. His regular season is over, but is expected to be back for the postseason.

Tom Brady threw a 8-yard touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks early in the third. Cooks finished with four receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown. Brady completed 22-of-35 passes for 298 yards one touchdown and one interception. Brady hasn’t been intercepted against the Steelers since 2005. Rob Gronkowski caught nine passes for 168 yards receiving and he was a headache in the second half.

Le’Veon Bell scored on a 3-yard touchdown run later in the third for the Steelers. Bell rushed for 117 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown. He also caught five passes for 48 yards receiving. The rest of the game was history. New England has won the AFC East crown once again.

The Patriots will host the Buffalo Bills (8-7) next Sunday and the Steelers will be on the road against the Houston Texans (4-10) next Monday Evening.
