Despite winning back-to-back championships with the Pittsburgh Penguins, 40-year old Matt Cullen has decided to sign a one-year contract worth $1 million with $700,000 in potential bonuses. Cullen will be returning to his home state Minnesota. His hometown is actually Virginia, Minnesota, but it is still approximately three hours away from the Xcel Energy Center, the home of the Minnesota Wild.
Cullen scored 13 goals and had 18 assists last season, with a plus/minus of 4. In the playoffs, he scored two goals and had seven assists, with a plus/minus of -1. He was a solid fourth line center for the Pittsburgh Penguins the past two seasons. I thought Cullen would have hanged up the skates by now, but he has a passion for the game of hockey.
