Jon Gruden to be next Oakland Raiders Head Coach

The Oakland Raiders surprisingly fired Jack Del Rio on Sunday after the Oakland Raiders 30-10 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Raiders finished with a 6-10 record and Del Rio’s record was 25-23 in three seasons as the Raiders head coach. Now, ESPN’s Jon Gruden will come out of the broadcasting booth and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Oakland Raiders are calling a significant press conference at which they will introduce Jon Gruden as their next head coach and it was first reported by Steve Cockran

Gruden was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 1998-2001. His record was 38-26 in those years with them. Gruden won the division a couple of times as a coach of the Raiders. He also coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for seven seasons and his record was 57-55 and Gruden also won Super Bowl XXXVII in his first season as the Buccaneers head coach against the Oakland Raiders.

What does hiring meaning for the Raiders? Well it will help out quarterback Derek Carr, but the main problem with the Raiders this season was defense. Maybe Gruden will spark this Raiders team. They have two more seasons in Oakland before heading to Las Vegas.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Raiders coaching staff under Jon Gruden will be the most expensive in NFL History. Jon Gruden will make $100 million over the next 10 seasons. Coordinators are getting four-year deals.
