Heading Into 2018, Cavaliers Look to Sustain Momentum

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love has scored at least 20 points in six straight games.

The 2017-2018 season has been a roller coaster ride for the Cleveland Cavaliers. They got off to a slow start and then at one point won 15 out of 16 games. Cleveland currently sits in third place in the eastern conference with a 24-12 record.

Isaiah Thomas is ready to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers and he will play tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers. Cleveland will play 14 games this month including a match up on the road against the Boston Celtics tomorrow and a Martin Luther King Jr. Day showdown in Cleveland against the Golden State Warriors. Cleveland shot a horrid 31% against Golden State on Christmas Day and lost 99-92.

Lebron James struggled in that game but other than that, he is having a very good season. He is averaging 27.8 PPG 8.2 RPG and 9.2 APG in his 15th season of his NBA career. Lebron is most likely the favorite to win MVP right now. Kevin Love is averaging 20.2 PPG and 10.2 RPG so far this season.

Dwyane Wade is averaging 11.2 PPG 3.7 RPG and 3.9 APG off the bench this season. Kyle Korver is averaging 10 PPG off the bench and Jeff Green is averaging 10.8 PPG and 3.5 RPG off the bench.

Jae Crowder is averaging 8.6 PPG 3.2 RPG and 0.9 SPG so far this season. He is a very good defender and causes headaches for opponents. Despite averaging 2.1 PPG off the bench for the Cavs, Cedi Osman has been very useful for the Cavaliers defensively and in minutes. Osman has actually appeared in 28 games this season.

The Cleveland Cavaliers should look to trade Tristan Thompson. He isn’t the same player he used to be and Thompson is ineffective at times. Thompson is averaging 4.5 PPG and 4.8 RPG. He is not worth the five-year $82 million contract anymore. The Cavaliers should trade him for DeAndre Jordan, but we will see what the Cavaliers decide to do.

Now that Isaiah Thomas is back, the Cavaliers offense could become more dangerous. Cleveland is currently ranked fifth in the NBA in points per game. They average 110.1 points per game. Cleveland is ranked 23rd in the NBA in points given up. They give up 107.3 points per game.

The Cavaliers might hit some rough spots because Isaiah Thomas will be adjusting to the offense but once the Cavaliers figure it out, they could become unstoppable. The Cavaliers will also have to figure out how to use him defensively. Head coach Tyronn Lue is going to have to stay smart with his rotations and his rotations actually haven’t been that bad this season.
