Cricket history was made during Sunday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders, as Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, took to the field for his IPL debut. This marked the first time a father-son duo has participated in the league’s history.
Arjun, who had been signed by the Mumbai Indians in 2021, finally got the chance to showcase his talent on the premier T20 stage. This debut followed in the footsteps of his father, who played for the same franchise from 2008 to 2010.
Sara Tendulkar, Arjun’s sister and daughter of Sachin, was present at the Wankhede Stadium to witness her brother’s debut. She took to Instagram to share her excitement, posting images from the match and captioning one of them with “Happiest sister today!!! #24”.
Sachin Tendulkar also expressed his emotions on social media, writing a heartfelt message for his son. “Arjun, today you have taken another important step in your journey as a cricketer. As your father, someone who loves you and is passionate about the game, I know you will continue to give the game the respect it deserves and the game will love you back,” he tweeted.
The cricket legend went on to encourage Arjun to continue working hard, adding, “This is the start of a beautiful journey. All the best!”
Sachin Tendulkar has an illustrious IPL record, having played six seasons for Mumbai Indians and scoring 2,334 runs in 78 matches at an average of 34.84. With 13 fifties, one hundred, and the 2010 ‘Orange Cap’, Sachin’s legacy in the league is undeniably impressive. As Arjun embarks on his own IPL journey, the Tendulkar family and cricket fans around the world eagerly await his performance.
