The Delhi Capitals, fresh off their first victory in IPL 2023, have another reason to celebrate. Team captain David Warner confirmed on Friday that the majority of the stolen cricket equipment had been recovered, and the individuals responsible had been identified.
The team discovered the theft of their cricket gear, including bats, pads, and gloves, amounting to lakhs of rupees, after they arrived in Delhi following their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 15. The equipment was stolen during transit from Bengaluru to Delhi.
Warner took to social media to provide details about the stolen items, informing fans and followers about the theft. He posted, “Stolen. 16 bats along with pads, shoes, thigh pads, gloves were stolen from the Delhi Capitals’ players kit bags. 3 bats belong to David Warner, 2 of Mitchell Marsh, three of Phil Salt and five of Yash Dhull.” The Australian opener brought attention to the crime through his online platform.
The Capitals had been struggling with five consecutive losses but managed to break the streak on Thursday by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium. With morale boosted by their recent win, the team was elated when Warner shared that most of the stolen gear had been recovered and the culprits “found.” He wrote, “They found the culprits. Few (bats) missing still but thank you,” expressing gratitude for the resolution.
The Delhi Capitals are scheduled to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next IPL match in Hyderabad on April 24. With the stolen gear mostly recovered and the team’s spirits lifted after their recent victory, the Capitals will look to build momentum and continue their winning streak.
