One of the major reasons CSK failing this season is the weak bowling unit, especially losing its ace pacer Deepak Chahar.
The right-arm fast bowler is ruled out of IPL 2022 due to an injury, which now hurting both him and the CSK. Though the management is trying to replace him with Mukesh Choudhary or Dwaine Pretorius, they aren’t as effective in the powerplay as Chahar.
Call-up For a Young Sri Lankan
Thus, CSK has just hired Matheesha Pathirana – a Sri Lankan medium-pace bowler who’s often nicknamed junior Malinga. This is because his bowling style replicates that of now-retired Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga.

Pathirana joins the CSK squad as a replacement for Adam Milne, who is just ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury, which he suffered during the initial match against KKR.
Matheesha Pathirana is just 19 years old and was part of Sri Lanka’s U19 World Cup squads in 2020 and 2022. He now joins CSK at the price of INR 20 Lakh. We wish to see how he performs in this season, where the next match for CSK is set up against their arch-rivals, Mumbai Indians at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai tonight.
Similarly, Gujarat Titans have taken Rahmanullah Gurbaz as a replacement for Jason Roy, LSG took Andrew Tye for Mark Wood, RCB called up Rajat Patidar in place for Luvnith Sisodia, and KKR picked Harshit Rana and Aaron Finch as replacements for Rasik Dar and Alex Hales respectively.
