Tonight’s match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians is surely an El Clasico of IPL.
In a nail-biting knock, CSK beat MI by 3 wickets to secure their second win of this season, and show Mumbai the way home early. Tonight’s match at DY Patil stadium is probably the lowest scoring one recorded in IPL 2022 so far, with both teams restricted to below 160 totals. Here’s how it went;
A Low Scoring But Also a Nail-Biter
Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Chennai started dominating the play from the very beginning. Their ace pacer Mukesh Choudhary scalped both the MI openers in his very first over and came back with a spell to choke Dewald Brevis too. Alongside his brilliant spell, Dwayne Bravo and Mitchell Santner have tightened the CSK bowling.
An unwanted record 🚨

Yet, they leaked runs in the second half of the first innings, and it’s mostly because of poor fielding! One of the world’s safest hands – Ravindra Jadeja failed to hold sitters, while few CSK fielders too let stoppable boundaries pass through. At last, MI’s Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav are the only ones who defended CSK’s fierce bowling and put out a respectable target of 156 onboard.
Though it’s fairly reachable, CSK lost its opener Ruturaj Gaikwad in the very first ball, and the night watchman Mitchell Santner too early. But Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu walled MI’s fall and added 50 runs to the third wicket. Soon as they fell down, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja too were sent early.
Nobody finishes cricket matches like him and yet again MS Dhoni 28* (13) shows why he is the best finisher. A four off the final ball to take @ChennaiIPL home.

Thanks to Daniel Sams, who made a good comeback into MI after being thrashed by Pat Cummins earlier in a match with KKR. His crucial figures of 4-0-30-4 have almost helped MI secure its first win, but Jaydev Unadket at the end leaked runs to MS Dhoni, who beaten 16 runs off the last over to complete the innings in a style.
This marked the second win for CSK in IPL 2022, while MI still wanders without a win. Losing this match has also made MI’s chances to playoffs this time, who’re on the verge of getting eliminated early this season.
