With everyone talking about the Los Angeles Chargers being hot heading into a Saturday Night Prime Time match up on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs, it seemed as if the Chiefs were the forgotten team. Kansas City played turnover-free football as the Chiefs defeated the Chargers 30-13.
With the Chiefs leading 3-0 in the second, Tyreek Hill scored on a 64-yard touchdown reception from Alex Smith. Hill finished with five receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown. Smith completed 23-of-30 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Melvin Gordon scored on a 2-yard touchdown run for the Chargers later in the second. Gordon finished with 78 rushing yards on 19 carries and a touchdown. He also caught six passes for 91 yards receiving.
In the third quarter, Phillip Rivers threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Gates. Rivers completed 20-of-36 passes for 227 yards one touchdown and three interceptions. Keenan Allen was held in check with five receptions for 54 yards.
Later in the third, Kareem Hunt caught the game-winning 3-yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith. With Kansas City leading 23-13 in the fourth, Hunt put the icing on the cake on a 5-yard touchdown run. Hunt finished with 155 yards rushing on 24 carries and a touchdown. He also caught seven passes for 51 yards receiving and a touchdown.
The Chiefs improve to 8-6 on the season and they swept the season series with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers drop to 7-7 and this loss puts a possible dash on their playoff hopes. Kansas City is now in the driver’s seat to win the AFC West crown. The Chiefs will host the Miami Dolphins (5-8) next Sunday and the Chargers will be on the road against the New York Jets (5-8) next Sunday.
