Cavaliers Top Celtics

The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Boston Celtics 102-99 on opening night, but something else was more important to everyone at Quicken Loans Arena than the game itself. Celtics forward Gordon Hayward suffered a fractured tibia and a dislocated ankle, according to Celtics Head Coach Brad Stevens. Hayward suffered his injury in the first quarter and he had to be carted off the court.

The arena was in complete silence when this immediately happened.  Players and fans were devastated and started to pray as well that Hayward would be ok. Hayward did score two points and record a rebound.

Lebron James once again was huge for the Cavaliers with 29 points 16 rebounds 9 assists and two blocks. He hit the go-ahead shot with 1:19 remaining. On the next Cavaliers possession, Kevin Love drilled a clutch three-pointer. Love finished with a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

With the Celtics down three, Kyrie Irving had a chance to send the game into overtime and he missed the shot. Irving scored 22 points and recorded 10 assists in his Celtics debut. Jaylen Brown scored 25 points for Boston. Jayson Tatum recorded a double-double in his NBA debut with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Derrick Rose scored 14 points in his Cavaliers debut and Dwayne Wade scored eight points in his NBA debut. These two teams will play each other two more times this season.
